I have to hand it to Alexander McQueen, he is very confidant in his brand power. Either that or he is foolhardy enough to present a collection that is an unadulterated piece of showmanship. This shoe collection was sheer spectacle and I just don't see most of the shoes having buying potential. He debuted two different types of shoe, the first were mirrored platforms with a sharp point matching the pointed toe of the shoe. The design of the platform almost looks as if the shoe is on top of another shoe. The effect is awesome. This platform was on mary janes with an hourglass heel and a mary jane with very puffy, gathered taffeta. It was also on skintight boots with steel spikes up the heel and back, as well as a boot with gathered leather at the heel, almost looking like the leg is coming out of a bag. I absolutely love all versions of this mirrored platform shoe and would happily wear them.
Then there were the platform wedge shoes. This is where the theatrics come into play. I simply could not see these shoes appealing to anyone other than a drag queen or someone in costume. Am I wrong? Would any of you wear these things? I feel like he ruined what could have been some fabulous shoes if they had a normal heel. Especially the red ones with the rope tie and key charm detail.
What do you think of these shoes?
