John Galliano is known for his romantic and whimsical designs, and the spring/summer 2010 shoe collection is no different. However, these shoes lean heavily into whimsical territory, bordering on costume-y. The sky high platform is "in" now, but when they get too high the shoe becomes unrealistic for regular wear and a bit silly looking.

Galliano was inspired by "old Hollywood glamour" for this collection and is reflected in the pink polka dot lace, silk bows, and feather details that adorned the shoes. The heels are a string of pearls and many of the shoes had dangling pearl charms or draping strands of pearls.

I like this collection from an artistic perspective, but I couldn't think of any occasion where I would possibly wear any of them. However John Galliano doesn't design for people like me, he has a very select target market (think Betsey Johnson), and they will love it.

I really like the John Galliano shoes for Fall 2009. The collection is super fierce with the current trend of super high platforms and heels, and bright, glossy, slightly over the top designs. I could only see myself wearing a few shoes from this collection, but I like all of them, regardless of my not being able to pull them off.

While I usually don't like wedge heels, I do like these. The black lace up shows enough of the foot that it doesn't look like a giant hoof, the way so many wedges do.

This shoe is classic Galliano- strappy, sexy stiletto. I like it alot and could wear this one.

This shoe is fabulous, but I couldn't pull off the giant pom pom. Love the wooden sole contrast.

This shoe is awesome for the contrasting wood platform, the pom pom and the lace up front.

These next three shoes are my favorite from this collection. I'm a girly girl and love the heart designs! The wooden platforms are a bit high for my comfort, so I would probably only wear the black pair.

The John Galliano Fall 2009 shoe collection was inspired by Russian-Balkan folklore, which is somewhat evident in the shoes wood soles. Personally, I think the collection is spectacular, with shoes that only the truly fierce could pull off. The lace up shoes with the single pom pom detail and the skinny metallic heel is spectacular, however the ones that lace up the leg to the knee is a bit over the top. My favorites were the leather heart shoes, but no matter how wonderful or outrageous the upper portion of the shoe was, the focal point is the sole and heel. The cut out, double platform gives an illusion that the shoe is floating. And that heel! It's practically a stilt. I love this collection, but there is no way I could wear any of these shoes. Hopefully by fall, he will put some of these designs on a more user friendly heel.

I'm loving Christian Dior's latest collection of shoes, the Fall 2009 debut. John Galliano found a way to keep customers happy (i.e., freaked-out department stores and skeptical, reality-seeking shoppers), while also keeping in step with fashion. I think his shoes are both wearable and reflective of artistic expression, which is no easy feat. It's usually one or the other (think Maison Martin Margiela). I think every single shoe in this collection is fantastic.

The shoes from Paris Fashion Week are even more amazing than anticipated, and John Galliano certainly revealed some of my favorites! These shoes are absolutely fabulous!

I love the futuristic look of the shiny metallic leather in the first two shoes, and the marble looking heel on the white shoe is a nice compliment with the clear upper. Of course, the most interesting detail about these shoes are the heels. The top half of the heel looks as is it's melting into the lower half. The peek through hole in the platform is another unique and stylish element that sets these shoes apart. I'm not sure how well these shoes will translate on the streets (they look very high and hard to walk in), but they look fabulous on the runway. These shoes are fabulous, but I couldn't pull them off. I hope to see some fierce babe sporting these shoes on the streets. Will you?
