Karl Lagerfeld’s Fendi Fall 2010 collection was slightly countrified, with muted palettes of gray, navy, beige, and mustard. The theme is consistent with what he did for the Chanel Spring 2010 collection, and although the shoes are very different, they are equally boring and unflattering.

The Fendi collection was a play on the sensible and utilitarian with high-heeled booties detailed with ribbed rubber toe caps and top lacing akin to Wellingtons or the muckers that horsey girls wear in the stable yard. Even the ‘dressy’ mary jane style shoes sported the silly rubber toe cap, not exactly a compliment to purple silk.

I get that collections are designs reflective of the current times, but why not give us something pretty to make us happy in an otherwise bleak time.

These Fendi shoes are going to be a sell out this Spring 2010. They are khaki colored Lycra, a great color for spring and summer, that wrap around the foot an ankle. The sandals have a 6 inch tapered nappa covered heel with a 2 inch Plexiglas platform, a rounded peep-toe, leather straps behind wrap around Lycra fabric self tie straps and leather ankle straps with buckle closure. They feature a gold FF logo stamped on the plexi platform. These fabulous shoes are modeled by Demi Moore below and doesn't she look fabulous? She's almost 50 and still gorgeous. The Fendi Spring/Summer 2010 shoes were OK, nothing special, but not bad. They are simple sandals covered with lightweight mesh material that wraps around the ankle, with lots of extra material for an extra bulky bow. The interesting aspect of the shoe, is the transparent platform, of course. It gives the shoe a futuristic, utilitarian look. My favorite are the shoes with the rose tinted platform, but I'm not sure I like them enough to spend the big bucks. Ho hum.

What happens to last season's luxury goods when they don't sell out? They go to an outlet mall. The Outnet is Net a Porter's outlet mall, and their goods are discounted up to 60% off. I'm not sure about these Fendi Suede T-Strap Vinyl Wedge shoes. While they are definitely distinctive and futuristic, they are a bit chunky for my taste. I'm really not a fan of wedges in general, though, for that reason. These Fendi shoes are suede T-strap over vamp with inset panels of clear vinyl. It has a 5 inch suede-covered heel with acrylic wedge and a 1 inch platform. These are Spring 2009 releases, but they seem more like a fall/winter design to me. Available at eLuxury, $860.

I'm loving these fabulous Fendi Multicolored python pumps. The rainbow colors are so bright and pretty and are a perfect compliment with the exotic python skin. Sometimes a bright color collaboration can only be pulled off in an accessory, such as a shoe or handbag, and these Fendi shoes do it beautifully. This shoe has a wooden heel with an FF stamped logo and measures 4 inches. Call me modest...I'm just so over the in-your-face labels on shoes. I like a good Louis Vuitton monogram tote or a classic GG Gucci handbag, but on the feet, it's just too much. This Fendi Zucca Lace up shoe would be great if it were a solid color with maybe a tiny label on the side...something discreet. The cut out oxford design is so cute, but with these shoes and the zucca print, it sends a message of trying to hard. If you like them, though, they are available at eLuxury, $740.
